So it begins: Welcome to my new blog!

Well, this is new! Hello and welcome to what promises to be a haphazard collection of musings and practical advice from my travels around the globe. I’m your host on this unpredictable journey, a regular person with a 9 to 5, who transforms into a globe-trotting wanderer at every conceivable opportunity.

Now, you might wonder how a person with a full-time job manages to squeeze in travel; simple really, it’s priority number one any time I have free time. On top of managing my annual holiday entitlement with military precision, I’ve managed two six-month sabbaticals from reality, wandering through various different parts of the world at a much nicer pace.

As of the last count, and I do keep count with a map, 47 countries have had the questionable honour of hosting me. Only one continent is outstanding, Antarctica I’m coming for you in the near future. Outside of travel my passions are sport and music, with a particular penchant for a good festival.

Food, I’ve found, is a particularly revealing lens through which to view a country. Whether it’s something unidentifiable being grilled on a street corner or a gourmet dish whose name I can’t pronounce, I’ve tried it all, at varying levels of risk to my digestive system. I have a motto that I will try any food once, especially if it’s been recommended to me.

But what’s travel without the people you meet along the way? I’ve found that few things bond strangers faster than shared tales of misadventure or the mutual exchange of travel wisdom. It’s these connections, whether I’m away or I’m inevitably chewing someone’s ear off at home, that have inspired me to put pen to paper and seeing what comes of it

So here we are, at the beginning of what I hope will be a grand adventure in blogging (it sounds odd just typing that!). I can’t promise it will always be perfect, but I can guarantee a degree of useful information, complete honesty and a sprinkling of humour.

I invite you to join me as I revisit the roads travelled, muse on the peculiarities of life abroad, and perhaps plan a few future escapades.

Thanks for dropping by. More to come soon!

Chris
